spotted this blue '74 TA22/A20-35 series Celica GT at the 3rd national Toyota meet on May 2nd 2010.the GT was the sport model, which came with the 2T-C engine,a dual overhead cam 1600cc 4 cylinder with twin Mikuni-Solex Carburetors in Japan(the US models had bigger engines like the 18R and the 20R,the 22R didn't come until 75' when the "Mustang of Japan" replaced it ) info on the first gen Celica:[link]
that's the perfect way to describe these old Toyotas or Japanese Muscle car because of the whole Mustang motif with the fastback model from '75 to '77,albeit it didn't have a V8 but it was still nimble with the truck engine in the US model.
indeed, these caught my eye a bit more than most Muscle cars and Exotic cars in car shows, whether it be an old Opel Kadett to a early 70's Toyota Celica like this one,its a damn shame that Toyota has gone off the deep end and are now making "Appliances" instead of real cars nowdays.
true, Toyota used to make some interesting rides and now they make cheap stuff for the masses. econ rides are good but we need something to make driving a gas instead of a bore. snore rides don't turn heads - sexy ones do
this is definately one of the sexy ones, the first gen Celicas were always great cars, and the Fastback ones from 75' to 77' were nicknamed "the Japanese Mustang" because of the rear lights and overall shape.
indeed,i'm actually considering getting a classic Toyota someday and restoring it,any model might do,first to 4th gen Corolla,Celica,Corona,4 Runner...
